Everyone who attended the April 15th rally at Elmwood Park recognized Sonnie Johnson from The Frederick Douglas Foundation as the highlight of the evening.
Mike Powell, Ben Ward, Morgan Griffith and Rachel Bandy all gave passionate addresses, but Sonnie clearly stole the show. After she was finished, she spent another hour a few feet from the stage, signing autographs and talking with the many Tea Partiers who wanted to speak with her.
Here is video of her stirring speech, in two parts.
If you enjoyed her speech, a donation to theThe Frederick Douglas Foundation would be a fine way to show your appreciation. She is hopeful of getting a Roanoke branch started, so if you are interested in becoming involved with this fine new organization, please contact us and we can get you in touch with Sonnie.
Sonnie also operates her own blog, Did She Say That, and can be heard on WHWD Blog Talk Radio.

The simpleton Birthers along with the Tea baggers are the same whiners that were crying when the McCain/Bailin ticket lost. Now that their yelling and screaming failed to stop the health care debate and the bill from passing they are crying again. Let’s face it the Republicans had eight years to deal with health care, immigration, climate change and financial oversight and governance and they failed. The Republicans are good at starting wars (two in eight years, with fat contracts to friends of Cheney/Bush) but not at winning wars as seen by the continuing line of body bags that keep coming home. Instead of participating in the health care debate of ideas the Republicans party turned inward to their old fashion obstructionist party (and their Confederacy roots). In my opinion the Republican Waterloo loss was caused by the party allowing a small portions (but very loud) of the republican party of “birthers, baggers and blowhards” to take over their party. I will admit that this fringe is very good at playing “Follow the Leader” by listening to their dullard leaders, Beck, Hedgecock, Hannity, O’Reilly, Rush, Savage, Sarah Bailin, Orly Taitz, Victoria Jackson, Michele Bachmann and the rest of the Blowhards and acting as ill programmed robots (they have already acted against doctors that perform abortions). The Birthers and the Tea party crowd think they can scare, intimidate and force others to go along with them by comments like “This time we came unarmed”, let me tell you something not all ex-military join the fringe militia crazies who don’t pay taxes and run around with face paint in the parks playing commando, the majority are mature and understand that the world is more complicated and grey than the black and white that these simpleton make it out to be and that my friend is the point. The world is complicated and people like Hamilton, Lincoln, and Roosevelt believed that we should use government a little to increase social mobility, now it’s about dancing around the claim of government is the problem. The sainted Reagan passed the biggest tax increase in American history and as a result federal employment increased, but facts are lost when mired in mysticism and superstition. Although some Republicans are trying to distant themselves from this fringe most of them, having no game plan/ vision for our country, are just going along and fanning the flames. For a party that gave us Abraham Lincoln, it is tragic that the ranks are filled with too many empty suits. But they now claim they have changed, come on, what sucker is going to believe that? All I can say to you is remember Waterloo.
Does anyone know what he is talking about – or why he posted here?
John — he’s here to disrupt, as his opening line “The Simpleton Brothers along with the Tea Baggers” makes clear. “Teabagging,” of course, is a derogatory term describing a perverted sexual practice.
He should be banned from posting here. He’s one of those “infiltrators” Dan Casey wrote doesn’t exist. It’s just that simple.
Obviously this is what talk radio would refer to as a “seminar caller”, a progressive liberal witht he same talking points who knows nothing about what we are and what we are accomplishing. They prefer to sit around, drinking their kool-aid, absorbing the information fed to them from the corrupted mainstream media, who think that government can deliver effective managerial decisions, and they consider themselve to be superior to the rest of America.
Case in point, this person doesn’t even know that Sarah’s last name is Palin. Balin was the vocalist for the Jefferson Starship- need I say more?
This is the kind of ignorance that has brought this country to the brink of bankruptcy- this person obviously does not think for themselves, nor I doubt ever has learned the fine skill of critical thinking.
As I started reading the post from Montana this morning I thought I would respond to his statements point by point. I’m not going to waste my time with that.
This a perfect example of government schools, left wing media, ( ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC ), and the insanity that is liberalism.
When you disagree with a liberal they attack, attack, attack.
I’m sorry, but, there is very little grey in this world. Most things are black and white. It either is or isn’t, for the most part.
I’m really surprised that you knew that Abraham Lincoln was a Republican.
Oh, by the way, almost all Confederate’s and KKK members were Southern Democrats.
DHOW31710 is right….I’m debating on whether to strike the post and take it off….but I think it perfectly illustrates the empy rhetoric and vapid ideas that permeate the progressive movement. In that regards, it is a perfect testament to why their movement is unravelling faster every day.
Sonnie made a great motivating speech. We need more people with her ambitions to help strengthen our cause. As for Montana, beautiful state. Leave the post up. It reminds us of why we are here. Bailin? Didn’t see her on the ballot.

It is a tactic of the left or anyone for that matter, when they do not have answers or do not wish to have a debate, to attack the person rather than address the issue. This way they can undermine credibility and cut the person off and not have to win an argument based on fact. Once you recognize that, it is a simple matter to separate the Wheat from the Chaff.
I used to live in Montana and it is a very beautiful State. They actually do raise a lot of Wheat there. Here in Virginia in the midst of a TEA PARTY most folks know the difference between what is right and wrong. We also know what is good and should be kept , harvested and stored and what should left in the field to be scatterd by the wind.
Sonnie Great speech ! We love you and I am proud that you are a Sister in Christ to me and a Virigina Patriot.
this is a perfect example of Saul Alinsky tactics,,,,,come in, accuse, when confronted take another tack, never respond, keep the opposition off balance,re-accuse until the opposition (us)either gives up or says something they can use,,,,,advice is to ignore it
Aw Heck…! Leave it on there. It speaks volumes about the character of at least one of our critics. This particular poster is not worthy or capabole of debate… let’s wait for one who is.
Montana is posting his screed all over the place. Try Googling some of his stuff.
