I looked at the weather this morning and the forecast for the 4th of July is Sunny and warm.

Great news as we have a tremendous day of fun, education and learning planned on Sunday!

There are a lot of events this week leading up to An American Celebration at Elmwood Park from 1-7 PM on Sunday July 4. Full details on the schedule of 4th of July events, times, etc. can be found on the link above.

We are particularly proud to have Sonnie Johnson as our keynote speaker.

She will be representing the Frederick Douglas Foundation. For those that heard her speak on April 15th, you know you don’t want to miss this.

The rest of the program will be so cool.  I am so proud of this event and we can’t wait to show Roanoke the best 4th of July Celebration ever!

This is a non-political event. We won’t be talking about are displeasure with any particular party or  individual politician. (So leave the signs home)

We will be celebrating the importance of July 4th, the Declaration of Independence, and the men and woman who have sacrificed so much to keep us free.  We think it is critical that Americans understand their heritage and why our freedoms are inalienable and crucial to our nation’s survival.

Directions to Elmwood Park are below.

On top of the individual activities going on this week behind the scenes…from burger tastings to building out the stage elements…we have a few public events on July 1 and July 3rd.

Thursday July 1, we will have our Public Meeting at the Voice of the Blue Ridge. The address is 3435 Melrose Avenue and the meeting will start at the usual time of 6:30 PM.

We normally have a wide ranging event, but aside from a few housekeeping/personal notes, we will only have 2 topics of conversation.

1. Volunteer training and organization for the 4th. This is critical! So if you’ve volunteered…or would like to volunteer…come on down!

2. The State Convention. I will bring some options for package deals including bus and hotel accommodations. We can save money if we book en mass by July 31. More details then. If you would like to make your accommodations, the site is here and the tickets are only $45 for the 2 day event if purchased prior to July 31.

We are EXCITED about this event. This will be where our plan for saving this country will be unveiled in full, and will start being put into place. The Convention logo says it all…

We will host a Congressional forum for the 6th District Candidates to answer questions from attendees. We have 2 of the 3 candidates running confirmed so far.

We will unveil, before thousands of fellow Virginians, our plan for the 2011 State elections. Every meaningful and effective step to curb an out of control Federal Government has taken place at the state level. Our focus will be on the state level races and ensuring we have a legislature that understands that the Commonwealth of Virginia is a sovereign state and that at least in Virginia, the Constitution Still Matters. If you have been involved in the Tea Party movement, of have been thinking about joining the Tea Party movement, this is the event where we actually start making a difference.

This is the event that, when looking back, will be a watershed event in this state’s history. The tickets are cheap and the impact is large…you have to be there!!!

On Saturday, July 3rd we will be speaking at the inaugural Bedford Tea Party. We’ll be on around 5:30 PM. Details below. I’m sure glad I had some time off from work this week. :-)
