We are finalizing the 4th of July celebration. Lot’s cooking and we can’t wait to reveal what we have planned. Advertising should start next week. We will be getting our volunteer force together for this huge undertaking…so if you haven’t volunteered to help yet…we will definitely need your help.
In the news…
Robert Hurt won the 5th District nomination to represent the GOP in the Congressional race against Tom Periello. The Tea Party groups in the 5th district (Lynchburg, Danville and Charlottesville) have had several high profile run ins with State Senator Hurt. Hurt has a checkered past in regards to his record of voting for tax increases as a state senator. Periello is a trainwreck.
This should be interesting…
We will be doing an in depth study of all of the candidates in the 5th, 6th and 9th District races as we move closer to November.
I would also urge those of you that live in Botetourt County to support Larry Ceola for the County board. His website is here. Larry is a good conservative and a good man and will support the principles of the Tea Party movement.

I feel that if the Tea Party Movement is going to be successful, they are going to have to band together and get behind one good candidate. We had six good candidates in this race which only led to the vote being split. Had all of the voters which voted for someone other than Robert Hurt, voted for just one other person…then we would be celebrating a victory for the Tea Party just as they are in South Carolina and Nevada. A House divided Cannot Stand…I did not want Robert Hurt to win, but I will support him in Novemeber. Our goal is to defeat Tom Perriello…we have to get our house in order and realize that to make a difference, we can’t split our votes like this in the future.
I agree that the Tea Party movement needs to band together. We have not been actively involved in the 5th District Race. The Lynchburg/Charlottesville/Danville Tea Parties have. Having 7 candidates was definitely a help to the GOP favored RINO, Senator Hurt. You should get your wish as the 5th District GOP is now filled with tea party members and they have to swear an oath to support GOP candidates, no matter how much of a RINO they are. They are hopeful they can have an impact on the inside…I am not as optimistic…which is why we are staying out of the internal machinations of the GOP here in Roanoke. It would have been better (IMHO) if the TP groups had backed one candidate in that race….and then if he lost…back him as an independent.
As much as I despise Periello as a Congressman, are we really better off with Hurt? We will grade out the candidates prior to the election and give everyone information on these candidates and let people make up their own mind. It is a tough moral dilemna.
As for me, I am done rewarding candidates for being less worthless than the incumbent. I’m done with picking the lesser of two evils. I won’t vote for a McCain again and if I lived in the 5th district, I would look at the independent candidates and either vote for him or abstain. I would rather have Periello, then reward the GOP for pushing a bad candidate down our throats. Short term pain?
Sure…Hurt would be an improvement.
Long term, your just allowing the GOP to ignore Conservatives again so we can just sit back down, watch Fox News and whine, like we’ve been doing for 30 years. We can just be our loyal selves….going along and taking the scraps that the GOP throws us while they go slowly towards the same goals as the Dems are going after quickly. (When the GOP actually closes down the EPA and the Department of Education and investigates the Federal Reserve…I’ll believe they have different goals)
We have to stop thinking that electing a few Congressmen is going to fix the system. The system is irreparably broken. The only answer is for our sovereign state to realize that we set up the Federal Government to do certain things….not run the entire nation. We need to focus on the 2011 State elections and elect Conservative State Senators and House members who will stand up for our rights as Virginians. And we need to band together with other states to amend the COnstitution to gut the authority of an out of control Federal regime.
Your right….we do need to band together…but that means we needs to stand up to the Feds and regain our rights….not supplicate ourselves to a GOP candidate with the vain hope he’ll stink a little less than Periello.
I’d rather support a losing candidate that supports our values and give the seat back to Periello, than compromise our principles. Compromising our principles is what has gotten this nation into the mess it is in…and I personally refuse to do it anymore.

More and more i’m thinking it’s going to take longer than just this coming election cycle to weed out the filth that is Washington D.C. Even if a best case scenario transpires this November, and we rid ourselves of several of the Congressional despots, we have to start the very next day on Senator Webb, who’s term ends in 2012. No doubt the 2012 Presidential race will be headline news. Lets not forget all the local and State elections in between either.
We’ve come a long way from that day down on the river… there’s still so much to do. Things we haven’t even thought of, lessons we haven’t learned yet. Sometimes we even argue amongst ourselves. This is good, even healthy. It’s helps us confirm what we believe.
I believe it’s most important right now, to establish this Tea Party movement in such a position as to have influence on elections for years to come. No… it doesn’t end come November, it starts in November, and it’s going to be a long hard fight. Some of us will get tired, burned out, but others will replace us. We have to make sure of this.
It’s easy to get drawn into an all-or-nothing mindset. The fact is, we’re going to lose a few bloody, we’re going to win a few handily. Like many of you, I held my nose and voted Republican last year. I’m not ashamed of it, but the GOP darn well should be ashamed for putting me in that position. Look what we have to show for it; a President who scoffs at the very fibre of the Nation that gave him such opportunity in life, a Congress that strips away our God-given rights one-by-one on a daily basis, a Supreme Court in danger of losing the delicate balance between liberty and tyranny with every nomination to the bench, all this resulting a Country that grows harder to recognize with each passing day.
That’s pretty much why I’m doing this… There simply is no other choice. Someone has got to save this Country. If not us – then who?
