Note….Don’t miss the latest installment of the Big Liberty Agenda below.

The Roanoke County GOP recently passed a resolution reaffirming their support of the Constitution and the Republican Creed.  We’re glad to see them reaffirming these principles. Now comes the part where the GOP always fails…holding their own accountable.

In part, the resolution reads

“…Republican Party of Virginia’s “Republican Creed” which address support for free enterprise, individual rights and responsibilities, fiscal restraint, strong national defense, and faith in God, articulate the objectives, beliefs, and intentions of the United States Constitution as written and intended by our Founding Fathers that should govern our nation, commonwealth, and county; and

Whereas, the Roanoke County Republican Committee expects its Republican candidates for elected public office and Republican elected officials to fully support the Republican Party of Virginia’s “Republican Creed”; therefore be it

Resolved, that the Roanoke County Republican Committee instructs its Republican candidates for elected public office and Republican elected officials to actively support and advance the principles and beliefs embodied in the Virginia Republican Creed…”

Here are our questions:

Will the Roanoke County GOP hold to account any Republican involved in Tax Increases in this year’s General Assembly? Just because you call it a “Fee” instead of a “Tax”, doesn’t change the fact that it’s a tax. The state increased “fees” by $95 million this year. In addition they manipulated other corporate taxes to effectively raise taxes. Will the Roanoke County GOP condemn this?

The state claims to have a budget surplus, but they achieved that accomplishment in a shifty way that would make Nancy Pelosi proud. By not funding the state pension this year, they manipulated the books to achieve a surplus. This is a dangerous way to achieve a budget surplus, especially when the state has $53 Billion in unfunded liabilities in it’s state pension plan.

If there was a surplus, why not refund the money back to the taxpayers instead of granting a raise to state employees? Or fund the pension? A raise doesn’t seem fiscally conservative to me.

More on the fictional budget surplus here.

Will the GOP condemn their members for this? Sean Hannity might not be able to ask tough questions on this…but we aren’t going to be placated so easily.
