Glen Lyn Plant That will be closed thanks to the EPA.
The closing of the coal fired plant in Giles County is the latest blow to freedom and prosperity from DC. Never mind Cap and Trade, the EPA is forcing the closing of these plants through regulations. This will cause rates to increase by 10 – 15% in the middle of a depression. 600 people across the state will lose their jobs. The insanity from DC never stops.
But it is all part of the top down/bottom up strategy the progressives have crafted to jam the Green Menace down our throats. This kind of unconstitutional overreach constitutes the top down strategy from Washington.
We will be having our first public meeting to fight back against the bottom down strategy in Roanoke County this week. This is spearheaded by our local ICLEI groups who are pushing our local governments to zone and regulate our property rights. We will meet up June 15th and Oak Grove Park at 6:30 PM. Get details at the link.
Since the Congress is too neutered to do anything about the EPA and it’s unconstitutional mandates, it is up to the states to do something. State Senate candidate Tripp Godsey seems willing to lead that fight. Here is what he wrote. We couldn’t agree more.
“We learned this week of power generating plants being forced to shut down because of EPA regulations, and one of them, Glen Lyn, is in the 21st

Tripp Godsey with members of the Giles County GOP
district. Reports say it will shut down because AEP will not be given enough time to comply with current EPA regulations – not laws written by our representatives, but agency rules.
The power generated by this plant will be sorely missed during peak usage in the region. Are west-coast style brownouts coming to Southwest Virginia when the temperature reaches 100 degrees? The jobs lost at this plant will be missed every day. Is there a line of businesses waiting for the opportunity to expand or open a business in the area to make up the difference?
The revenue to Giles county will be missed when the taxes from the plant – and the jobs – have to be made up in an already stressed budget. Which service can afford to have its funding cut in Giles county? Can it be taken from law enforcement? Or should teachers and students be asked to sacrifice?
It doesn’t have to be this way. Virginia has the power and authority to prevent this nonsense, and our current Senator, John Edwards, not only hasn’t spoken about this, he won’t do anything to stop the EPA from meddling in Virginia’s business.
Well, I’m different. I know it is wrong and I’m not afraid to say it. I know it can be stopped and I’m not afraid to do it. Southwest Virginia can no longer afford for John Edwards to simply sit and watch these horrible things happen. We need someone to stand up and take action to make these abuses stop. How can it be done? The power lies in the United States and Virginia Constitutions. It’s time we used that power for the good of the people instead of the empowerment of government agencies.
I will do it and I need your support to make it happen.”
