One week till August 23. Updates on the Godsey campaign and a fantastic email regarding the upcoming County windmill meeting. Look for a great ICLEI update from Bill Gregory tomorrow morning who has been the chairperson of our Agenda 21 task force. Bill and the rest of this task force have done an amazing job of research and Bill puts it all together to refute another pathetic attempt to trivialize our efforts to convince Roanoke County to sever ties with ICLEI. More on that tomorrow, as well as the fact we are almost 10% of the way to getting a Nullify Now! Tour Stop in Roanoke. Check out the counter on the right hand side of the site.
But for today…
1) The Tripp Godsey campaign is hitting its stride. Look for the media blitz (well as much as we all could muster) coming to the talk radio stations starting Thursday. Don’t despair the lack of funds, I believe this primary campaign will be won in the trenches. We will win by getting one voter at a time motivated to go to the polls on Tuesday August 23. One voter at a time that is motivated to change the way government works. This is our moment and individuals can make more of a difference in this campaign than any in recent history.
We have had volunteers making phone bank calls, knocking on doors and doing the hard grassroots/guerrilla campaign tactics that we have to do based on our grassroots funding. Want to be part of the biggest political upset victory in local political history? There is still time to help…and the more help we can get the better.
There is still a need for volunteers to phone bank and go door to door for Tripp. The more the better.
Just show up and volunteer at the the Godsey campaign office at the following times.
Wednesday
5PM – Dusk
Thursday
9AM – Noon
5PM – Dusk
Friday
5PM – Dusk
The headquarters is located in Roanoke next to Merrick Optical at 3407 Brambleton Ave Roanoke, VA 24015. Call our Volunteer Coordinator, John
Brill, for details at 815-1079.
When we win next Tuesday, and the money that is sitting on the sidelines (some won’t donate until Tripp proves we can win) starts coming in; watch out. John Edwards will be facing a battle hardened team, fighting sincerely for this nations principles, with the funding to properly run a general election. Edwards will never face a more determined and tenacious political foe. Jump on board now and be part of the team that will shake up Richmond.
2) Please check out windmill information on these previous posts captured on this page. This includes a link to the actual statute. The information gives tremendous insight into the actual language of the proposed ordinance and why major changes need to be made. Here is another email from Eldon Karr. It doesn’t add new information, but effectively highlights some of the bigger issues with the proposed regulations. He also touches on the fact that this isn’t about partisan politics. Eldon and I don’t agree on some political issues, but we are 100% together on this one.
Stay tuned for some great ICLEI information tomorrow. Here is Eldon’s fantastic analysis.
In our community, the cast of liberal & conservative, old-timer & new-comer have come together and found common ground. What a wondrous event for The Tea Party and The Hippie Generation to fight side by side to protect our land. What kind of tea do you suppose they’ve been drinking?
It is really not about labels. It is about simple truth. We now call it transparency. After reviewing & studying the proposed amendment, I’ve come to realize that the proposed amendment, as it stands, has serious flaws in terms of what the proposal offers to “potential” wind developers.
1. Why? Why would the County offer, by ordinance, to accept “salvage value” as credit toward restoration prior to negotiating tax revenue to the County? Why would anything other than a 100% Performance Bond for land restoration be necessary?
2. Why? Even the documents prepared by state and federally supported industrial wind industry lobbyists (RVCCC, VT, JMU, Va. Comm. Coll. System, VACO, VML & others) describe Roanoke County’s proposed property line setback as the most lax of Virginia mountain counties where ordinances are in place.
3. Why? Why are the proponents in agreement with the 60 db MAXIMUM sound level, THE MOST lax among VA mountain counties? (Also Note: Unfortunately, many VA mountain counties and areas of counties have no zoning ordinances)
As our proposed ordinance amendment now stands, it appears to INVITE industrial scale wind farms, potentially transforming the landscape that our residents treasure, so much, into industrial yards feeding our voracious energy appetite, while lining (and insulating) the pockets of those who choose to “short” (Wall Street term) the pockets of humanity, albeit, innocently.
The ordinance amendment as it now stands clearly appears to be the resulting document between “STAKEHOLDER” (a “buzzword” for financially interested) parties. It is not a document that was created with an complete understanding of the USE being proposed.
Well said Eldon.
