Greg will elaborate more on this, but we decided, in the spirit of the bi-partisan rhetoric we hear from our Democratic friends, to help out State Senator John Edwards when his campaign staff abandoned their table at Olde Salem Days for a couple of hours. We were just three tables down, so we jumped in to ensure voters got to know a little bit about their status quo State Senator John Edwards. Click the video for a taste of how he helped. Greg had some interesting conversations with John, local democrats and others he can elaborate on soon.

While we have some issues with Dave Nutter, we surely hope he can help John enjoy more time with his family and business interests by helping him retire. It would help though, if Nutter actually got out and did something. While most local and state politicians used Olde Salem Days as a way to reach out to voters, Dave was noticeably absent. He didn’t even provide stickers/signs or anything for local GOP leaders to hand out. People were walking past our table all day with Ralph Smith and John Edwards materials in tow…but Dave didn’t have any presence at all.

I did a little research and Edwards has already set up phone banks in Blacksburg and is soliciting for locations to place his signs. Once they manned his table properly, they had a spirited effort in getting his message out to folks.

Not only was Nutter absent and had no presence in stickers or signs….his site is absent too.

If you go to the news page on Dave Nutter’s site for a preview of what he is working on, you get this…that’s right. Nothing. PLEASE, Dave. You have to do better than this. I know we’ve had issues but we would prefer you over the worst state senator in Virginia, John Edwards. If you are going to pull off this political upset, you are going to have to fight!

The Agenda for the next Roanoke County Board of Supervisors meeting is out.  There will be an early afternoon meeting as they have a full agenda. There will be a public comment section at the end of the first session. I would not flood the agenda with speakers, but a few well versed speakers to reiterate key points on the ordinance (like pushing the setbacks to a mile) would be helpful. They will reconvene at 7PM and have the vote on the ordinance. No public comment will be allowed. Because it will be a long session, we may have just 1 or 2 speakers hit on ICLEI in the afternoon session. We will be back in force on 9-27 to urge the BOS to sever ties with ICLEI. But for now, urge them to vote NO on the ordinance. Their contact information is here.

And good news on the Nullify Now Tour. We are now 21% of the way there on pledges to bring Tom Wood’s group here to help us sell the area on nullification. Please consider just a small $10 pledge to make this happen. If we can show politicians locally there is real support for this, and educate them and our neighbors on how nullification is the rightful remedy, we can really push back on the federal government.
