Will the House Hold Holder In Contempt?

Will they?
Only if your Congressman supports it.
Here is a litmus test for Bob Goodlatte. And this is an easy one. Perhaps Goodlatte can start redeeming his failed status as our Congressman by voting right on this one. Heck, even Webb and Warner (of all people) voted the right way on the Coal bill the other day, so anything is possible.
Just in case you haven’t been paying attention to the Fast and Furious Controversy.
Here is a great summay from CBS News.
“Documents obtained by CBS News show that the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) discussed using their covert operation “Fast and Furious” to argue for controversial new rules about gun sales.
PICTURES: ATF “Gunwalking” scandal timeline
In Fast and Furious, ATF secretly encouraged gun dealers to sell to suspected traffickers for Mexican drug cartels to go after the “big fish.” But ATF whistleblowers told CBS News and Congress it was a dangerous practice called “gunwalking,” and it put thousands of weapons on the street. Many were used in violent crimes in Mexico. Two were found at the murder scene of a U.S. Border Patrol agent.
ATF officials didn’t intend to publicly disclose their own role in letting Mexican cartels obtain the weapons, but emails show they discussed using the sales, including sales encouraged by ATF, to justify a new gun regulation called “Demand Letter 3″. That would require some U.S. gun shops to report the sale of multiple rifles or “long guns.” Demand Letter 3 was so named because it would be the third ATF program demanding gun dealers report tracing information.”
So to execute the contempt order they need the house to vote. The GOP holds the House. There is no earthly reason why this vote should even be a question. It’s not about popularity it’s about upholding the oath of office. Our Congressman can move in the right direction by voting to hold Holder in contempt.
It’s a shame I feel like I need to ask this….but please call Mr. Goodlatte and ask that he vote to hold Holder in contempt. His D.C. office number is (202) 225-5431.
Goodlatte talks about the President’s unconstitutional behavior, even releasing a press release decrying his unilateral decision to impose the Dream Act through the Executive branch. In that press release he makes the following statement.
“With this announcement President Obama has completely bypassed the Congress, which is charged with writing our immigration laws, in order to grant possible amnesty to many illegal immigrants. This policy shift is in direct conflict with the law of our land. ”
So if the President is violating the “law of the land,” is a Press Release the only action our Congressman is going to take?
Talk is cheap. If Congressman Goodlatte would like to avoid another Epic Failure rating in his next term, he needs to START by:
- Voting to hold Holder in contempt
- Working with Congress to file impeachment proceedings against the President as that is the Constitutional remedy when a sitting President violates the law
In just 3 years of the tea party movement, 1/3 of the GOP voters in the 6th District have started to recognize that Goodlatte is not consistently following his oath of office. If he wants to stop this erosion of confidence, these efforts would be a good place to start.
