Urgent Update: Transportation Bill Shenanigans
on January 23rd, 2013 at 7:46 pm
The House of Delegates Finance Committee is about to vote on House Bill 2313, also known as the Governor’s transportation bill. Don’t get fooled by the Governor’s bait and switch.
Governor McDonnell proposal ends the gas tax, raises registration fees for cars and trucks and raises the sales tax. This will result in increased taxes on families and businesses. I quote our friend Dave Mason’s analysis of the bill.
“The Governor is pushing this transportation bill like sausage through a machine. The tactic is a quick hand-off to Speaker Howell with Minimal or No Public Debate. The summary says this bill was in the hopper January 18th … but no delegate could give me a bill number Lobby Day (January 21st). WHY is that ???
No new taxes. Contract the size of government to pay for transportation.
People who drive cars with diesel engines get ‘double taxed’ People with gasoline engine cars pay no tax. (people with hybrids pay fees) But guess what? Everybody who buys anything coming off a tractor trailer is paying diesel tax whether they know it or not.”
Please contact our only local delegate on the committee and ask him to vote no! His information is below.
