The 2nd Tuesday Constitution Group, The Roanoke Tea Party and The Botetourt Republican Committee are proud to announce an exciting event for May 11.
At the regularly scheduled 2nd Tuesday Constitution Meeting (more information on this fantastic roup can be found on the Facebook/Website Links below Virginia’s Republican Delegate Bob Marshall from Prince William County, who authored the Virginia Healthcare Freedom Act, which passed and was signed into law by Governor Bob McDonnell. The Act nullified recent unconstitutional federal mandates that required citizens to purchase approved health insurance. Bob Marshall was first elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 1991 and has consistently worked for the principles that have made our state and nation great!! Marshall will provide crucial information that will be useful to understand where we are standing in history. He will unveil the deceitful hoax that is being perpetuated on the American people in the name of healthcare and general welfare using unconstitutional laws and draconian mandates.
Also, Donna Holt, an interim state coordinator for the Campaign for Liberty will share the podium with Del. Marshall. “C4L” is a truthful, no compromise, pro-liberty, group. Donna is one of the most aggressive activists in Virginia, and she works to hold elected servants accountable for their actions, to insure that they live up to their sworn oath of office, to protect and defend the Constitution, which acknowledges our God- given rights, and to limit government as described in the U.S. Constitution. She has been an inspiration to all freedom lovers and patriots and is an example of what committed Patriotic American Citizens are capable of achieving.
The time to restore the vision of our founders and to fight against tyranny is now! Thomas Jefferson said, “The people get the government they deserve.” As Virginians, we must participate in our government, understand the events and issues of our day, and let our voices be heard.

Health Care Freedom is shaping the Health Care Debate Countrywide
As we look at what we have accomplished so far in 2009/2010, the Health Care Freedom Act may be the biggest thing we got done.
In the letter sent to President Obama from the GOP in response to the sham of a health care summit Obama is now suggesting, was the following passage.
As you may know, legislation has been introduced in at least 36 state legislatures, similar to the proposal just passed by the Democratic-controlled Virginia State Senate, providing that no individual may be compelled to purchase health insurance.
Not only does this protect our rights as Virginians, but it has emboldened politicians from both parties to stand up and say no to oppressive government intervention.
And this bill would not have passed in Virginia without the coordinated efforts of Tea Party groups across the state that convinced the Democratically controlled State Senate to pass this legislation.
As we continue to evolve as a group, we should be able to shape and mold the debate on other key issues. More to come as we work together to save our nation.

Our victory on the Health Care Freedom Act made the front page of the Washington Post.
The concept was a major focus of a rally by tea party activists last month that drew more than 1,000 to Richmond. Jamie Radtke, chairman of the Federation of Virginia Tea Party Patriots, said that it was a focus of major lobbying by volunteers who affiliate with such groups in Virginia and that the vote showed they are achieving bipartisan support.
“This is a major victory for our movement,” Radtke said.
This will likely get play in other major media outlets today.

With five Democrats defecting, the Virginia Senate today passed a Republican measure that says Virginians don’t have to buy health insurance.
Voting 23-17, the Democratic-controlled Senate kicked to the House a bill by Sen. Frederick Quayle, R-Suffolk, that supporters say will send a message to Washington about its efforts to overhaul the health-care system.
The Quayle bill was the first of three nearly identical proposals by Republicans. The others are carried by Sens. Stephen Martin of Chesterfield and Jill Vogel of Fauquier. They passed by the same margin as the Quayle bill.
Quayle said the legislation is important, because it’s a way of telling Congress that Virginians believe the federal goverrnment is overstepping its authority.
The bill will now go to the House of Delegates where a Republican majority makes it very likley this will become law in 2010. This is a HUGE victory for the Tea Party. The fact that the legislation was able to pass a Democrat control senate is proof of how unpopular the federal health care legislation is in Virginia. This would not have happened if not for our grassroots lobbying efforts.

Update From Richmond on the Health Care Freedom Act (HB10)
Update! The health care bill hits the Senate floor for a vote Friday. If the 2 Democrats that voted for this in committee hold strong….and all of the Republican’s stay united…this would end up in a 20-20 tie. And then the Lt. Governor would cast the deciding vote. Presumably he would vote for this (but with Bolling you never know). A lot of things have to go right, but getting this through the Senate (which is the biggest obstacle) is within grasp. Contact your local Senator and let them know to please vote for SB 417.

“SB 417, a bill that protects Virginia residents from being forced to purchase healthcare coverage, PASSED the Senate Committee on Commerce & Labor, 8-7. THIS IS BIG. Senators Colgan and Puckett crossed party lines to vote for this bill. No one in the room expected the bill to pass the committee, and now the bill goes to the Senate!! Three identical bills, patroned by Sen. Quayle, Martin, and Vogel all passed simultaneously. These bills could come up for a vote in the Senate as early as Thursday. A play-by-play of the committee will be coming soon.
For now, e-mail and call Senators Puckett and Colgan THANKING them for voting yes on SB 417, SB 311, and SB 283. This is as important as calling a committee member to vote. We have to thank these guys and let them know that we appreciate them coming across the aisle to support our effort.

10th Amendment Rally a Rousing Success
Over 50 members of the Roanoke Tea Party joined about 2,000 Tea Partiers from across VA at lobby day in Richmond in support of state legislation that supports our state’s 10th Amendment rights. We participated in a rally featuring speechs by Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli and other state officials who are willing to stand up for our state rights.
We then visited delegates and Senators at their offices to solicit their support. According to Delegates we spoke with, this is the largest crowd ever at a Richmond Lobby day. At this point:
Senator Ralph Smith, Delgate Morgan Griffith and Delegate Lacey Putney support HB 10 and HB 69. Please take time to thank these patriots for their support of these critical pieces of legislation.
The speakers and the crowd were energized. It was nice to have political leaders, in a position of power, who were supportive of our initiatives. 2 videos are below that capture the spirit of the proceedings. Cuccinelli’s speech is brilliant, but Bob Marshall drops a bombhell concerning his conversation with an unnamed US Senator from Va.
According to Delegate Marshall, this US Senator agreed that forcing citizens to purchase health care coverage, or face fines and imprisonment, was probably unconstitutional. But that was not his primary concern?!? Senator’s swear an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution and this attitude should be disturbing to anyone who cares about the Constitution.
In a just world, the US Senator that said this nonsense (either Warner or Webb) should be removed from office. Check out the videos below. And please contact your Delegate or State Senator and make sure they are fighting for HB 10 and HB 69.

HB 10: The VA Health Care Freedom Act
“No law shall restrict a person’s natural right and power of contract to secure the blessings of liberty to choose private health care systems or private plans. No law shall interfere with the right of a person or entity to pay for lawful medical services to preserve life or health, nor shall any law impose a penalty, tax, fee, or fine, of any type, to decline or to contract for health care coverage or to participate in any particular health care system or plan, except as required by a court where an individual or entity is a named party in a judicial dispute. Nothing herein shall be construed to expand, limit or otherwise modify any determination of law regarding what constitutes lawful medical services within the Commonwealth.”
HB 69: VA Firearms Freedom Act
An Act exempting from federal regulation under the commerce clause of the Constitution of the United States firearms, firearm accessories, or ammunition manufactured and retained in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Gearing Up For the January 18th Rally…plus other updates!
It’s time to get off the sidelines and into the game Virginia!
The January 18th 10th Amendment Rally in Richmond is shaping up to be a more organized and more constructive rally then any others we have been involved in.
We have bills that we can support that will help protect our freedoms.
We will have a friendlier reception from state legislators.

Our bus will leave from Tanglewood Mall at 6AM for Richmond.
We will be leaving Richmond around 2:30 PM. For those interested, additional activities will occur that evening. We should be back at Tanglewood Mall around 6PM.

There is no parking available on Capitol grounds.
A) BUS Parking: Three or four spaces are presently available on Bank Street between 10th and 12th Streets for motor coaches to unload. Buses should not stay on Bank Street longer than 2 hours.
B) Park N’ Ride: Shuttle service will be provided from the Parker Field Annex (Map) to 9th Street at the Bell Tower from 8:00am – 2PM.

We have our own version of this happening right here in the 5th District where we desperately need to get rid of Tom Periello in November. More here. January 6th Protest. January 18th Richmond Rally.
We will be holding a protest rally on Wednesday, January 6 at Senator Jim Webb’s office in SW Roanoke County. The reason for the protest is his vote in support of the Health Care bill in the Senate last week. We would like to show displeasure with Senator Warner as well, but there is not sufficient parking near his downtown Roanoke office to support a rally of this sort.
Please join us on the 6th from noon to 2:00 p.m. with signs and banners – and a warm beverage! Tea Party groups from Franklin County, Staunton, Rockbridge and Lynchburg will be traveling to Roanoke for this rally, so we should have a strong showing of Virginia Patriots.
Senator Webb’s office is located near the corner of Electric Road (Rt. 419) and Chaparral Drive. If the office is open, anyone who would like to speak with his staff can enter the office and do so, but our goal is not to disrupt their operation or block access to the building.
We want to demonstrate our opposition to the health care bills, not just to the Senator and his staff, but to our fellow citizens as well. To that end, we will congregate along the intersection of Route 419 and Chaparral Drive. This is a busy time on a busy road, and we will be encouraging the local media to take note of our protest.
We had a great reception on 419 for our Halloween health care protest and we expect the same next Wednesday as well. Public support for the health care bills continues to drop and we don’t want our Senators to forget it!

Keep in mind that The Roanoke Tea Party is not opposed to health care reform. In fact, we are in favor of many reforms in this area, but we do not support the sort of top down, government run system that has been approved by the House and Senate.
What we would like to see is reform along these lines:
- Allow insurance companies to sell across state lines
- Allow the sale of ‘no frills’ catastrophic coverage policies
- Expand the use of Health Savings Accounts
- Tort reform to limit malpractice liability abuse
- Allow taxpayers to deduct individual premium costs without itemized deductions
- Allow individuals, small business and states to form voluntary pools to negotaite insurance rates
- Use refundable and advanceable tax credits to allow low income workers to purchase health insurance
Don’t forget the 10th Amendment Rally in Richmond January 18! The Roanoke Tea Party is organizing a bus trip for our members (and any interested Roanoke Valley residents) to attend this important event at the State Capitol.
Citizens from all over the state will converge on Richmond to lobby their delegates, and congregate in a giant rally at the Capitol Bell Tower. Keynote addresses will be delivered by our new Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, and Virginia Delegates Bill Carrico and Bob Marshall.
This day is a holiday for many people, but the General Assembly will be in session. Won’t you spend this day off with fellow Roanoke-area Patriots and stand up for our 10th Amendment Rights? Numerous states are moving to stand up to Federal government on there take over of the Health Care system. More info on that here.

Virginia can take the lead in fighting our oppressive Federal Government. We can make this happen in our state if we can really get behind this effort.
