Defund Obamacare…This Time For Real

Don't Fall For This Clown

Lost in the news about the President’s bungling of Syria, a key vote is about to happen around Obamacare. And as usual, Congressman Eric Cantor is looking for a symbolic vote against Obamacare, while continuing to fund the Obamacare. Same old story.

From the National Review.

A handful of conservative Republicans walked into a meeting with Majority Leader Eric Cantor Monday night anticipating a discussion — an effort to find consensus.

What they got instead was a perfunctory heads-up about his plan for the upcoming fight over the “continuing resolution,” or CR, a bill to continue funding the government when the current appropriations run out. Under Cantor’s plan, the House would pass two different bills, a standard CR and a measure to defund Obamacare. Through parliamentary wizardry, though, the House would keep the Senate from voting on the CR bill until it had also voted on the Obamacare measure.

Virginia’s MIRC Wants to Hear From You-Don’t Let Them Down

General Assembly Richmond

When politicians ask for public input, it is natural to be skeptical of their motives.  However, as we have discussed many times before in our meetings and on this website, our voices can mean more at the local level.  And here’s another chance to speak out-Virginia’s Medicaid Innovation and  Reform Commission (MIRC) has opened up a web-based comment forum concerning their duty to decide the fate of Medicaid expansion in Virginia.  According to their website, “Our Public Comments portal is now available and we welcome the input, respectfully presented, of all stakeholders as we weigh the decision on whether or not to expand Medicaid in Virginia”.  As we are all “stakeholders” in this decision, I encourage everyone to take a few minutes to let MIRC know that expanding Medicaid in Virginia is not the answer to any problem they can come up with.  Since the VA General Assembly is not ↓ Read the rest of this entry…

Fact Checking The Media

on September 8th, 2013 at 11:22 pm
Posted In: Roanoke Tea Party Posts

Just when you think the media can’t descend to a lower level, they find a way to get even more pathetic in their efforts to protect President Obama from his own lies.

“Fact Checking” is supposed to be a way to ensure that the media holds political figures to the truth, not to excuse blatant lies made by political figures. But that is exactly what the Washington Post has done with the ridiculous ” I never declared a red line” comment from President Obama.

After a long and tortured attempt to excuse Obama’s bold faced lie, the Washington Post posits the following question,”So is a bungled talking point worthy of Pinocchios? We don’t try to play gotcha here at The Fact Checker, so we are inclined to leave this question to our readers.”

Perhaps if the media played a little more “gotcha” with an administration that has turned lying into an art form, instead of excusing their behavior…we’d all be a lot better off.

Syrian And The Constitution

on September 5th, 2013 at 3:20 pm
Posted In: Roanoke Tea Party Posts

In this article Michael Boldin from the 10th Amendment Center penned this excellent piece on why the current Congressional process for handling war powers is still wrong…You can read all of it here. The key sections are below.

In response to heavy public opposition to a unilateral executive war against Syria (yes, limited strikes on another country are certainly a “war in the legal sense), the Obama administration has given the appearance of a tip of the hat to Constitutional procedure by “seeking approval” from Congress.

I know quite a few people who, while still rightly opposed to intervention in Syria from a moral standpoint, have referred to this as “at least going in the right direction.”

I don’t. ↓ Read the rest of this entry…

September Meeting Thursday

on September 4th, 2013 at 5:50 pm
Posted In: Roanoke Tea Party Posts

We will be having our regularly scheduled monthly meeting this Thursday, September 5th at the Holiday Inn Tanglewood. The meeting starts at 6:30 PM.

Hear about the state wide races from an inside perspective, efforts for the General Assembly and nullification are ready to go and we need your help, a discussion on the future of the state wide tea party movement and a presentation on a phrase you hear more about these days….statism.

With the current debate on Capitol Hill regarding Syria, statism is on display like never before.  You can’t fight the right fights unless we can have an honest conversation about our issues.  We look forward to seeing you tomorrow night!
